The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America is the parent club for Yorkshire Terriers. The purpose of the YTCA is to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Yorkshire Terriers and do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection. The breed standard is devised by the parent club, and written to define the ideal specimen of the breed and provide guidance for reputable breeders in improving stock. The standard is then accepted by AKC for the breed.

A healthy Yorkie can give you unconditional love for as long as 12-18 years! Knowing the genetic history of your dog is an important aspect to finding a puppy that will be healthy for many many years. A high-quality diet is fundamental for health and longevity, but there is so much more to it than tasty sounding ingredients. What's important is proper formulation and balanced nutrition. Making a high quality food that is nutritious is not very easy! It requires the right nutrients in the right proportions, and all the other ingredients need to be considered for their effect, as a whole, in addition to quality control and testing. Not every manufacture is able to do this. It requires the food to be formulated by a qualified nutritionist. An ingredient list cannot tell you if the food is properly formulated to provide a balanced diet of nutrients. Dogs need nutrients not ingredients.

The Phenomenon called Retail Rescue
Retail Rescue is a term used to describe an animal rescue that purchases animals to resell through their rescue while labeling the transaction as adoption and being exempt from license and inspection regulations. It may use donated funds to buy from breeders and auctions while claiming they rescue dogs from disreputable breeders and shoddy situations. In many cases, these dogs are not rescued from unhealthy circumstances, but simply transferred to be sold. Retail rescues also import dogs from other countries to sell under the label of adoption in order to keep up with the demand for dogs in the United States, especially "rescue" dogs.
There continues to be a high demand as people want dogs, especially puppies, but have been convinced that pet stores and commercial breeders sell puppies that receive substandard care. Thinking they are saving these dogs, the public is increasingly backing laws banning sales of pure-bred commercially sourced dogs, and permitting only sales from animal shelters and rescue groups. This only promotes disreputable breeding in order to supply rescues to fulfill the demand. Learn more: The Phenomenon called Retail Rescue
At Glenmore Yorkies, we support purpose-bred dogs and the preservation of historic breeds through reputable breeding and responsible care. We advocate for dogs that need of a new home but cannot condone multi-million dollar nonprofit "rescues" deceitfully being puppy brokers, preying off the unsuspecting puppy buyer. Because we never want any of our sweet Yorkies to be surrendered to a rescue or shelter, all new puppy owners sign an agreement that if they cannot keep their dog for any reason, they will come back to us. If you have a Yorkie that needs a home, we will happily help!
